Racing Rules

Note: The racing rules below are based upon what was done in prior years.  The Pinewood Committee will finalize the rules by the Pinewood workshop on January 12.

Pack 266 uses a 6 lane track with a computer controlled automatic timer

All cars race in a set of Preliminaries, a series of races where each car races in each lane against different opponents.   Average times will be the basis for determining rankings.

The three cars with the fastest average times from each cub rank (Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos(I and II combined)) will enter a 12 race Finals.   In the Finals we will conduct six races for each car and the three fastest average times will earn Pack Speed Awards.

If there are cars classified as "semi-pro" (see design rules below), such as not meeting weight or wheel requirements, these cars will run in their own, separate, set of preliminary heats.   No prizes will be awarded in semi-pro except bragging rights.   (There were no semi-pro cars in the 2008 race.)

General

  1. Race is open to all registered Cubs, Parents and Siblings.
  2. Cubs cannot use cars made for previous years’ races to win awards.
  3. Winners in each Cub rank will compete for an overall speed award, except semipro.
  4. If the car jumps off track the heat will be run again. If the car jumps the track a second time, it will lose the heat.  This rule also applies to cars that interfere with another car.
  5. If a car looses a wheel or a part, the Cub has one opportunity to make a repair.   A car must have all four wheels to continue to race.
