There is currently a burn ban at Bovay which means no fires of any kind, so we will not be able to cook over the weekend. As a result, the Pack has decided to use the cafeteria facility at the campsite. We will miss the opportunity to cook our own food but perhaps by Spring the burn ban will be lifted.
We are trying a new web-based registration procedure which should simplify signup for all participants. A link is provided below where you can register all campers and make payment by credit card. A medical form will be needed for each participant (scouts, parents and siblings) if you have not filled one out already. That’s about it. Please register early. I will be sending friendly reminders over the next couple of weeks to make sure no one misses out.
The Campsite and Facilities The Bovay Scout Ranch covers 1498 acres and is a natural paradise for plants and wildlife. Huisache and Bois D'arc trees surround many of the campsites and cover the hills. The camp abounds with marine life, and has several lakes teaming with bass, crappie, perch, and catfish. Nature study, bugs, animal tracks, and conservation are vital elements of the camp program.
The aquatic facilities of George Lake are among the finest available for paddle boating, sailing, canoeing, and rafting. The Water Park is the center of the swimming and fun activities. The program is under the supervision of qualified adults, certified by National Camp School of the Boy Scouts of America. These adults are assisted by a fully trained staff to give leadership and instruction to all Scouts.
Field Sports, BMX, Archery, and Riflery, are other activities included in the Bovay program. These programs have something for both the youngest and oldest Cub Scouts in the Pack.
For more information, see the Bovay Scout Ranch site. Camping Gear: All families will need their own camping equipment. There is a good list of gear to be found here, so if you are new to camping, take a look. If you still have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the mail address below.
Special Notes: Please note: This campout is for Cub Scouts and their immediate families only. Per BSA’s national Youth Protection policy and our Pack’s Policy on Youth Protection and Campouts, only parents and guardians can sleep with children in a tent. If a non-parent guardian wishes to attend the campout and share a tent with any child, the Cubmaster’s advance approval is required. Please inform the Cubmaster at the beginning of the year (or at least 30 days before the campout) if approval of a guardian is requested. Also, please notify the Cubmaster or Outing Chairperson if any participants change from those listed in the signup procedure.
Anyone bringing friends or guests to the campout will be asked to leave.
Medical Forms: Did you complete medical forms in the fall and/or does your den leader have a medical form, with parts A and C completed and copies of front & back copy of insurance card attached, for each participant? Part B of the form and a physician’s exam are not required. The medical form is available on the Pack’s website here.
Please remember your registration is incomplete without a current, executed medical form (Parts A and C and a copy of your medical insurance card) for each camper (scouts, parents and siblings). Please send the completed forms to Gerritt Ewing 6435 Westchester Ave, Houston Texas 77005 no later than October 21, 2011.
